Request: Big Four vs Golden Trio by ZLynn Request: Big Four vs Golden Trio by ZLynn
So i got requested on the Big Four tumblr blog here:

[link]

I'm not fond of combining them into one universe, though. So this is prolly gonna be the only pic I'll put of them together.

Hermione: OMG RONALD! You don't just go around asking people if they're blind!

I have to ask. What was the thought process that went into choosing Houses here? Specifically Hiccup? Why is he in Hufflepuff? Their defining trait is their loyalty. If Hiccup was Hufflepuff material he would have killed Toothless out of loyalty to his people. Why isn't he in Ravenclaw? He invents things that should be way beyond his time. And he practically discovered aerodynamics. He's a genius.

Pic looks good though.

Well, since you asked...

thebigfour-hogwarts.tumblr.com…

I wrote this all out before months and months ago just in case anyone would ask, so I could toss them the link. :P I agree that he's a genius, but not all geniuses go into Ravenclaw. Look at Hermione, for example. Brightest witch of the time and she's in Gryffindor, who is known more for their brawn than brains. House sorting is not as rigid and shallow as most people believe them to be. I believe that the Sorting Hat would dig much, much deeper.

Ok, while I see your point there's the fact that what he does in the movie being a betrayal of pretty much everything his culture was kind of spits in the face of Hiccup being Hufflepuff for me. There's also the fact that he's not really a hard worker. He is when it comes to things he's passionate about and/or good at. But all those gadgets and weapons he built before meeting Toothless were kind of short-cuts, since he couldn't really be "Viking".

That's just my interpretation of it though. You've obviously thought it through to come to your conclusion and it's perfectly valid too.

just cause he's in Hufflepuff doesn't mean he needs to exhibits /all/ the traits in the house, after all. I don't see anything lazy about inventing for the better. A blacksmith or inventor can't be lazy. He's building things to help him do things that he can't achieve on his own. He compensated for his lack of brawn with an invention that, by the way, did work (it hit Toothless now, didn't it?), and did something he could never do. He worked hard to overcome his shortcomings.

He's not unloyal to his people, he DID try to take down Toothless. He just couldn't do it because of his own moral principles. And in the end, he looked past the prejudices he was brought up on to see that Dragons, like Toothless, are not ultimately aggressive. They're just defensive. And I think he does have loyalty! Look at how much he grew, how he stuck to Toothless. He compromised so his people can live in peace with dragons. How is that unloyalty? No one saw it as a betrayal (not at the very end).

Remember, Hufflepuffs are not just ultimately loyal. I believe, the whole sentence, was 'where they are just and loyal'. There was no justice in killing Toothless while Toothless was bound up and helpless.

(besides, if they were to be all loyal in Hufflepuff, what about Cedric? Cedric gave Harry a clue and access to the prefect's bathroom for the second tournament. He did this because he felt it was fair, because Harry helped him out first. If he were really that unwaveringly loyal, and nothing else, to Hufflepuff, he'd not do that at all.)

All good points. I'm too knackered to continue this I'm afraid, you have your thoughts on the subject, backed up by well thought out arguments, and I have mine. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
